Beta-adrenergic-dependent CFTR expression

Beta-adrenergic receptor modulates expression of the Cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) [1] via elevation of Adenosine 3',5'-cyclic phosphate -(cAMP) mediated by GNAS complex locus (G-protein alpha-s)/ Adenylate cyclase/ cAMP. High cAMP concentration leads to activation of the PKA and, subsequently, of cAMP responsive element binding protein 1 (CREB1) and transcription factor 1 (ATF-1)-dependent transcription of CFTR. cAMP-dependent activation of CFTR transcription is still being studied and appears to be more complex than believed previously [1], [2], [3].
