This gene encodes one of the NF-kappaB family of transcription factors which are characterized by a Rel homology domain (RHD) in the N-terminal region. These transcription factors have key roles in regulating immunity stress responses apoptosis and differentiation. The p100 form of this gene is processed in the proteasome to the p52 form. NF-kappaB molecules containing p52 participate in noncanonical NF-kappaB regulatory pathways. Recent reviews of the NF-kappaB signalling pathways include PubMed 17072323 18267068 18515173 and 21772278. [provided by RefSeq Aug 2011]
